Benign Hematology
Hematology focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of blood disorders and diseases. Our blood is made up of four components: white and red blood cells, plasma and platelets. These components carry many functions from delivering oxygen to the rest of the body and regulating body temperature to fighting off infections and preventing excess blood loss.
When these components become imbalanced, a person is at risk for developing one of two types of blood disorders: malignant cancers of the blood system or benign hematologic disorders.

- Myeloma
Benign Hematologic/Blood Disorders
- Anemia
- Leukopenia
- Elevated blood counts
- Erythrocytosis (elevated red blood cell count)
- Coagulation disorders (hemophilia)
- Porphyrias and Hereditarily Hemochromatosis (iron overload syndromes)
